Founder, Mira Reisberg, came to launch Hummingbird Literary following a 25-year history in the field of children’s literature working as an award-winning illustrator, a writer, editor, art director, designer, a children’s literature and art education professor, and a teacher/mentor to many now successful children’s book creatives.
Mira is also the Director of the Children’s Book Academy, which trains children’s book writers and illustrators in in-depth courses. Her doctorate in education with a focus on children’s literature has been a huge asset in this work. After nine of Mira’s students received 12 contract offers in nine months, Red Fox Literary agent Karen Grencik suggested that she might make a good agent, and offered to mentor her, providing in-depth training.
Prior to this training, Mira’s was nicknamed “the Picture Book Whisperer” because of her editorial skills, her facility with art theory and art direction, and her innovative ideas. She also works with early readers, chapter books, middle grade and the right young adult story. During her career, Mira has mentored and taught many award-winners and best-sellers, such as Yuyi Morales, Kahryn Otoshi, and Deborah Underwood.
Through her courses at the Children’s Book Academy, where she interviewed many editors and her warm outgoing personality, Mira already has many wonderful connections with editors and looks forward to making more.
Her mission is to successfully represent all age-levels to create wonderful books that bring meaning and/or joy to children’s and young adult lives. Hummingbird Literary will have a limited number of clients so that Mira and her team can focus on building long-term careers and fruitful relationships.
